Update to the Community — 9/28/2026
  • All Schools

Here is the Superintendent's Update to the Community for the week of August 28, 2026. Click to read more.

Good afternoon. I’m Jeff Harris, Superintendent of Schools for Del Norte, and this is the update for the week of September 28, 2026.

Dates to Remember
First, I want to make sure that you mark your calendars for Parent-teacher conferences for grades K–8. Conferences will take place the week of October 12, with minimum days Monday through Friday that week. These meetings are an opportunity to connect with your child’s teacher, celebrate their progress, ask questions, and discuss how we can work together to support their learning.

Staff will reach out to schedule a time to meet with your child’s teacher at some point over the next two weeks.

Become a Substitute
If you are looking to explore working with local schools or are just looking for part-time work, we are making it easier than ever to find and apply for substitute opportunities at Del Norte Schools.

Our new substitute employment page, DNUSD.org/subs, brings current openings together in one convenient location. You can choose to apply for classified substitute positions, which support a wide variety of school and district operations, and certificated substitute positions, which serve to teach students in the classroom.

Substitutes are an important part of keeping our schools running. If you are looking for meaningful, flexible work or know someone who may be a good fit, please visit DNUSD.org/subs.

For questions or additional information, call 707-464-6141. To view all of our available employment opportunities, visit DNUSD.org/jobs.

See Something. Say Something.
Last Monday, I spoke about October being National Bullying Prevention Month and about the “See Something. Say Something.” campaign. Again, this campaign encourages students to speak up about bullying, harassment, cyberbullying, and other safety concerns. Families can help by reminding children that they can always turn to a trusted adult.

If there is an immediate concern at school, tell a staff member right away. Students and families can also report concerns through our confidential Tip Line at DNUSD.org/tip, without providing a name or contact information.

In addition, our new quarterly Student Safety Spotlight will share safety reminders and resources for middle and high school students. Students don’t need to have all the facts before asking for help. Find that flyer and more at dnusd.org/safety.

Roots of Wellness Summit
Our second annual Roots of Wellness Summit has sold out and takes place this Thursday and Friday, October 1–2. We look forward to welcoming educators, professionals who serve youth, and community partners for two days focused on youth substance use prevention and support. This year’s theme, “The Way Back,” reminds us of the importance of connection and making sure young people always have a path to help.

Sports Update
It’s another full week for Warrior athletics. Today, Girls' Golf competes at the Red Bluff Tournament, while JV Boys' Soccer hosts Arcata. Tuesday brings Boys' and Girls' Varsity Soccer against Fortuna and Girls' Tennis against McKinleyville here at home, while Volleyball travels to McKinleyville. Cross Country heads to Fortuna on Wednesday, and Girls' Golf travels to Eureka Golf Course Thursday.

Friday, Warrior Football travels to Hoopa, while JV Boys' Soccer heads to Brookings. Saturday wraps up the week with Boys' and Girls' Varsity Soccer hosting South Fork at home, while Girls' Tennis travels to Eureka. Best of luck to all of our Warrior student-athletes. Remember, you can find complete fall sports schedules at dnhigh.org/sports.

That’s all for this week’s update. Thank you.
