Pine Grove Elementary School

Pine Grove Elementary School is the home of the Panthers. We are a Preschool through fifth grade campus with approximately 360 students. We offer AM and PM Preschool sessions, Transitional Kindergarten and full-day Kindergarten. Our Kids First program is a free afterschool program that serves about 100 students and runs from dismissal to 6:00 pm daily. We believe student success is a partnership between school and our families. Pine Grove has both a Parent Teacher Organization and a School Site Council. Our PTO sponsors our Book Fairs, Movie Nights and other activities. We offer several opportunities for parental involvement, including Back to School Night, monthly Family Lunches, monthly awards assemblies, STEM night and Spring Book Picnic. Check out our website's calendar or our Facebook page for dates and times of upcoming events.

History

In 1897, a one-room school house was built on two and a half acres of land donated by the Wakefield family. It was named Pine Grove School and served the territory for over fifty years. The original school house burned down and was rebuilt. As enrollment increased, more buildings were built. In 1951, a contract was signed with Crescent Elk so that 7th and 8th grade students could attend there. During this time, the school board members, John Wells, Mervin McLaughlin and Richard Reneau determined more land was needed in order to expand the school. A bond was issued and a State School Building loan was approved. A modern school was constructed and all the existing buildings were torn down. In time, Pine Grove Elementary School would go on to join the Del Norte Unified School District.
